Sectoral initiatives

The strategy for development of the Catalan SDI is based on the promotion of SDIs thematic or specialized on specific domains, so maintaining an own identity and services contribute their resources to IDEC, enlarging the global network of geodata and services suppliers, while presenting to end's users the specific, sectoral and specialized vision that needs.

The benefits of this strategy are:

    • Increase the participation of stakeholders to participate in the SDI activities, which results in the creation of more metadata records, increasing the number of users, etc.
    • It makes know about the IDEC and interoperability concepts between the different communities of users in a faster and better way.
    • It's easier to demostrate the direct benefits that is generated from the exchange of information between public organizations that provide information and between them and end users.
    • Offers better opportunities for PPP and official relations with the private sector (users and providers) become more nearby.
    • Know more precisely can be the real needs of end users, as they have common interests in a particular domain.
    • It promotes the interest of GIS value-added companies to introduce interoperability technologies in their new projects.
    • Improves the position of SDI in the field of GI.
